Indiacode Information System of Indian Courts

The INDIACODE INFORMATION SYSTEM (INICODIS) has been developed in close co-operation with the Legislative Department of Ministry of Law & Justice, Govt. of India.

Correctness and authenticity is an essential aspect of the System. The

Department has contributed significantly in this direction. They have got the entire data of India Code proof read very minutely.

INCODIS provides highly organised computer support to the legal community. It is an Information System designed to provide access on the INDIACODE to a wide range of users. It will cater to the information requirements of:

Judges

Parliamentarians

Legislators

Legal Draft Persons

Advocates

General public interested in the Central Legislation

INCODIS contains all Central Acts of Parliament as on date, right from 1854 onwards. This includes Short Title, Enactment Date, Sections, Schedule and also Footnotes for every Act. Besides this, Statement of Objects and Reasons (SOR),Table of contents and Status of an Act is also available in INCODIS. State-of-the-art retrieval technology allows the user to sift through the entire maze of data to locate relevant Act.

NIC, as part of the computerization of the Ministry, has implemented a System for drafting of Legislation. As we are keeping track of Legislations at the draft stage itself, we simply need to append the text of the Act to INCODIS databases , as soon as the Parliament enacts it. This will ensure INCODIS users to have access to the up to date information of Acts of Parliament using NICNET.

SEARCH FACILITIES

The search facility of INCODIS is user friendly as it is based on ‘Free Text’ based queries. This system will enable the users to retrieve any Act or part by typing a few typical words which the user feels should be a part of the text of the Act. INCODIS does not expect you to follow its pre-designated keywords.

In addition to the free text retrieval, different retrieval options have also been provided to take care of the interests of different users. They are:
