About Sancharnet Dialup Account and Email Account
The customer will be communicated with the ID of his choice (as mentioned in his application) along with the password. The customer is free to submit three IDs of his choice while registering for Sancharnet Internet Access. The same will be utilized in creating the ID for the customer. Whichever ID is available that will be created and communicated to the customer.

For example if a customer whose name is Prashanth M.R is provided an internet account he will be communicated the following id and password: The customer will be able to change the password and not the UserId.
User ID : prashanthmr
Password: pranib1979

This implies that customer’s:
Administrative User ID: prashanthmr
Password: pranib1979

Dialup ID: prashanthmr
Password: pranib1979

Email ID: prashanthmr
Password: pranib1979

The Administrative ID & Password is used to access the web page for changing the Administrative Password, Dialup password and Email Password. This page also shows your balance hours and the expiry/ end date of your account, with the account type.

1. Two Email IDs are provided for corporate plan . For all other plans one e-mail ID is provided
2. Simultaneous logins per user ID shall be 2
3. E-mail space for e-mail ID shall be 4 Mb
4. Free web space for user ID shall be 1 MB
5. Email Address should be configured as @sancharnet.in only.
6. Contact Sancharnet Node In charge for details on incoming and outgoing mail server.

1. Change passwords and view balance hours.
1. Enter your Administrative User ID and Password.
2. Click on the Login button.
3. Now you can see your Account Balance, Package/Account type with Contract begin and expiry/end dates and can change your passwords for Administrative, Dialup and Email Id’s.
4. For changing any password type the password, click update and wait for confimatory
message.

2. Installation and Configuration Procedure for PSTN-Dialup Internet Access
Prerequisites:
Hardware:
1. PC 486 or above with at least 32 MB of RAM
2. Modem
3. Telephone Connection

Software:
1. Window 95 Operating System or above ( preferable )
2. Dialup networking installed on the PC. This can be checked by double clicking on ” My Computer ” Icon present on the desktop.
3. Internet Explorer / Netscape Navigator or any other browser installed on the PC. Internet Explorer / Netscape icons are (usually) available on the desktop.

Configuration Steps:
1. Installing and Setting up Modem.
2. Configuring Dial-up Networking.
3. Connecting using Internet Explorer/Netscape browsers.

1. Installing and Setting up Modem

1. Connect the Modem to the Computer as per the Installation Manual given with the Modem and after the Hardware connections are over Switch ON the Modem. Then proceed for the Software settings.

2. Switch ON the Computer. While system is starting “New Hardware Found” window may be displayed. Proceed for Modem Installation as per item number 3 given below.

3. Once the Computer has started and Window Desktop is displayed, Click >Setting > Control Panel. Then double click on Modem Icon. Click On Add. Then “install New Modem” screen appears. If you know the modem type click on “Don’t detect my modem I will select it from a list” else, let computer detect on its own. Click Next.

4. Select the Modem and appropriate model. If you have the modem listed in the list Click on “Next” button else if you have manufacturer’s disk click on “Have Disk", then select the appropriate serial (Com) port and then click “Next” Then Click on Finish.

5. The “Modem Properties ” screen appears. Click on Dialing Properties and enter your area code and your dialing mode like pulse or tone Click on OK to go back to ” Modem Properties” screen.

6. Click on the Properties screen with your modem name properties with 2 tabs
a) General b) Diagnostics

7. The general tab shows the Modem Installed. Click on Properties & select the maximum speed and speaker volume. Then Select the Connection tab and deselect ” wait for dial tone before dialing".

8. To check modem installation click on diagnostic tab, select the Com port where modem is installed and click “more info ” to check if modem has been properly installed. And this completes installation.

B. Configuring Dialup Networking
1. Click on “My Computer > Control Panel > Network ” and see if you have the ‘Client for MS Networks’, Dial-up Adapter and ‘TCP/IP’ configured on your computer as below. If you have these items continue down the page.

2. To begin with, double click the “My Computer > Dial Up Networking > Make new connection". This will open “Make New Connection” wizard, which will guide you through the rest of the process.

1. Enter the name of the computer (e.g. SANCHARNET) and select the modem type, which is installed on your computer then click on “Configure". Select “Options” tab and deselect all boxes except “Display modem status". Click “OK” and then click on “NEXT”

2. Here you will enter area code and telephone number. The area code is “011″ and the telephone number is “172233″. Then select the country as INDIA. Click “NEXT” After you click the finish button the wizard will close and an icon named “SANCHARNET” will appear in your Dial-up Networking window. Now right click on your “SANCHARNET” icon and then normal click on “Properties".

3. If your screen has the correct information, which you entered during the wizard phase, Deselect “Use country code and area code” and then click on the “Server Types” tab. You must deselect “Log on to Network” and select “Enable software compression” & “TCP/IP". Then click on the “TCP/IP Settings ” button. Then click OK and then OK again.

You have successfully configured your computer to dial into the SANCHARNET. Now all you have to do is double click on ” SANCHARNET” icon in your “Dial-Up Networking” folder. Then you will get the “Connect To” window and will be prompted to enter your USER NAME and PASSWORD. Type your User name (in small letters) and Password (Please enter password exactly given to you by us). Then Click “Connect” and the modem starts dialing. Now you will get a “Connecting To SANCHARNET” Your user name and Password will be verified and once it is connected, you will get an icon on the status bar (bottom right of your screen).
Now You are connected to the Internet. You can start your browser by double clicking its icon on the desktop.
