Under the Centenary Celebration Committee it was decided to set up Dr. Ambedkar National Memorial at 26 Alipur Road, Delhi, where Dr Ambedkar lived and attained Mahaparinirvan. For this purpose, an amount of Rs 7.12 crores was given to the Delhi Govt. to acquire the property.
For the acquisition of the said property, which is owned by M/s Jindals, the Govt. of NCT of Delhi issued a notification under Compulsory Acquisition of Land Act. The owners of the property challenged the notification of GNCT of Delhi the Hon’ble High Court of Delhi. The Court in its interim order directed to maintain status quo till the case is disposed off. In the meantime, Delhi Chief Minister convened a meeting, which was attended by the officials of Ministry of Urban Development and M/s Jindals (owners of the property) for compromising the case. M/s Jindals agreed to give away their property if an alternate site was given to them. The GNCT of Delhi has identified Khasara N.o 560 in Civil Lines area, Delhi which is also agreeable to M/s Jindals. M/s Jindals also agreed to bear the difference of residential and commercial value of the property. The Hon’ble Minister of State for Social Justice & Empowerment has requested the Delhi Chief Minister to expedite the matter. On the acquisition of the said land, the construction work of the Memorial will commence.
