The Directorate of Income Tax (IT) has two units namely Inspection Unit & Examination Unit. Inspection Unit is entrusted with the work of supervising and monitoring the Inspection work but excludes the inspections done by other Directorates like the Directorates of Income Tax (Vigilance) etc in the Income Tax Department at all India level 1. The Directorate of Income Tax (IT) at present monitors the conduct of Inspections to be done by various authorities like Addl. CsIT, CsIT, DsIT (Inv), CCsIT etc. 2. It follows up the comments of the CsIT, CCsIT and DsGIT on the reports of such Inspections wherever these reports have been forwarded to this Directorate. 3. It also follows the error pointed out either by the Inspecting Authority or the Reviewing Authority and action taken, if any, to rectify the error. Examination Unit is entrusted with the work of conducting Departmental Examination for confirmation and promotion of all categories of officers and staff in the Income Tax Department. 1. The examination Wing of this Directorate conducts two Departmental Examinations for the Direct Recruit ACsIT and examinations for confirmation and promotion of other ranks. It frames the question papers, conducts the examinations, gets the evaluation done, publishes the results, frames the rules for conduct of exams, frames the syllabi for exams, deals with any grievance in respect of conduct of Exams and evaluation of answer sheets and handles the consequent disputes etc. on behalf of the Central Board of Direct Taxes. 2. However, for the Ministerial Staff, only the question papers are set by it and the exams are actually conducted by the respective Cadre Controlling CCsIT including the evaluation of the answer sheets, publication of results and processing of any dispute in respect of the same.
