Courses at Naval Hydrographic DepartmentCourses Courses are conducted at the school for three broad categories namely Hydrographic Officers, Hydrographic Technicians and Civilian Hydrographers. The courses for Hydrographic Officers and Technicians are also open to foreign nationals. A limited number of civilian personnel from Govt./semi Govt. organizations are also admitted to the Hydrographic Officers and Technicians Courses. TYPE OF COURSE : DURATION Basic /Free Hydrographic Course Long Hydrographic Course Advanced Hydrographic Course Hydrographic Technicians Courses Basic Survey Recorders Qualification Course: 26 Weeks Civilian Hydrographic Course Refresher Course for Officers: 10 Weeks The Long Hydrographic Course conducted by the School is also affiliated to University of Goa, India, for award of Master’s degree in Hydrographic Surveying. In addition, the school also conducts a Free Hydrographic Course every year for upto six students from the Indian Littoral States under the aid programme of the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India. The school is equipped with state of the art Hydrographic and oceanographic equipment. Few of the important facilities available are :- i. Survey Launches (For Field Training) The faculty comprises of highly qualified instructors with extensive experience in Hydrography and Marine Sciences. Exposure is also provided through visiting lecturers from premier National Institutions. Excellent in-house Nautical Cartographic training is provided by the Cartographic experts at the National Hydrographic Office, Dehradun, towards compilation and printing of Navigational Charts and Publications, both in the conventional and digital form. The Office conducts the following courses in nautical cartography every year. Nautical Cartography Course (Officer’s Cadre): 52 weeks Applications for training may be addressed to the Chief Hydrographer to the Government of India on the Customer Request Form. Foreign applicants may kindly apply through the normal Diplomatic Channels.
