Forum for Global Knowledge Sharing

Forum for Global Knowledge Sharing (Knowledge Forum) is a specialised, interdisciplinary, web based global forum. It aims at providing a platform for scholars belonging to different institutions, universities, countries and disciplines to interact, exchange their research findings and undertake joint research studies. It is designed for persons who have been contributing to R&D and publishing their research findings in professional journals.

At present there is no inter-disciplinary forum for persons belonging to different disciplines like business schools, economics, basic sciences and technology to interact, collaborate and share their knowledge on the problems involved in technology creation and transfer, and other issues relating to global business. It was felt that in the current era of globalisation and fast technological change the creation of such a forum is vital.

The current technological revolution (information technology, advance material and biotechnology revolution) has certain characteristics that are different from those of the earlier revolutions. The current revolution is knowledge and information intensive and not natural resources or material intensive. Furthermore, the product life cycles are very short, in some cases as short as a year. Besides, the impact of information technology is not confined to a particular sector or product. It is more like a technological fusion, which cuts across disciplines, nations, industries and sectors. These characteristics have important implications for technology creation and transfer. Due to short product life cycles, the presence of small and medium high tech firms supported by venture capital, the use of internet in trade in technology and goods, and the global character of the revolution, knowledge sharing instead of unidirectional technology transfers has assumed importance. Scholars from different disciplines in technology, pure sciences, economics and other social sciences have been working in these areas. Though the issues involved cut across disciplines and therefore require a multidisciplinary approach involving interaction between scholars from different disciplines, there is no forum or a platform to date, to facilitate networking among scholars belonging to science, technology, business schools, economics and other social sciences. Knowledge Forum has been launched in response to this vital need.

The Forum for Global Knowledge Sharing will not be a mere addition to the existing research institutions nor is it intended to be a competitor to the existing institutions. Instead, it aims at providing a platform for scholars belonging to different institutions, universities and disciplines to interact, exchange their research findings and undertake joint research studies. Thus institutions and scholars will become members of Knowledge Forum, interact with others working in related areas, widen their horizons and undertake interdisciplinary studies. Consequently Knowledge Forum is designed as a virtual institution where the members will mainly interact through email and internet and undertake joint studies. However, the Forum will also organise quarterly or biannual meetings for the members to meet and interact.
